Spending Money on Myself

One of my favorite things to do is to go shopping. Whether I shop online or at the mall, it is always rewarding and fun. There is nothing like going into a store knowing that I will find something I like and walk away happy with my purchase. I love to update my wardrobe with the newest trends and styles. Shopping is definitely a stress reliever however, once the monthly credit card bills it doesn’t seem as appealing. Not only is shopping fun, most of the time it involves going to the mall. The mall is one of the greatest places to be. There are so many shops and so many people.

Dinner with an old friend – nostalgia

Dinner is always an elaborate affair in our house. Lunch is a negligible event as I am the only one at home and I conjure up something for a single person and have it though I ensure that it is nutritious. Whereas, I take particular care for the dinner since all of us are at home. Last night, we had an old friend of ours who happened to drop in unexpectedly and stayed back for dinner. As it is, I was preparing tangy pasta and toasted sandwiches with stuffed potatoes. A delicious looking vegetable salad was already made and the then there was fruit salad and ice cream in the fridge. After a round of sweet corn soup with mushrooms, we had a fulfilling and nutritious dinner and simultaneously growing nostalgic about old days with our friend. What more can you ask for!

My Puppy

When I first got my dog (she was a puppy dressed in her cute little dog clothes, and the last time I lived with a puppy, I was a few weeks old myself!), my former roommate showed me a sort of “dog sign language” way of indicating I wanted to play — her mother trained German Shepherds, so she knew all kinds of weird dog stuff. Basically, get yourself into a kind of modified downward facing dog yoga position (knees can be on the floor, important part is having your rear end in the air), with your “paws” flat on the ground in front of you. This signals you want to play. First time I ever did it with my dog; she got a “WHAT? YOU SPEAK DOG???” The look on her face and was super excited, so I suppose it’s worth a try!

Foster family

My name is Matthew Lightner. My wife of five years and I have been working for the last year to become foster parents. We have completed all the classes and now are working on our new house to get it to code. We desided to get into foster care about three years ago after meeting several children that were in need of a home. We instantly thought of the extra room we had and knew this was something we could do. With so many children out there that need help I hope this gets people to open their homes and their hearts.  Hopefully in a few months we can make a difference in a little person’s life for the better!

Just Another Weekend

SUNSHINE RANCHES, FL - JULY 08: Gloria Johnso...

They say it’s a mile around and I did four loops, so that took care of my daily walk and then some. My sister just rescued two older dogs (6 and 7) from a shelter. They love each other. They’d been cooped up for a while and are in need of exercise. The female especially (7 years old) is a little pudgy. On Sunday, we took them to the park to walk them on their new leashes and collars. They charged out of the car like wild animals, but about 3/4 of the way around the front part of the park, both of them were panting and the female decided to lie down and rest. It started to rain so I took them to a shelter and waited while my sister ran to get the car. It was really coming down by the time we ran across the grass to scramble into the car. When I got home, my shoes and pants looked like I’d been rolling around on the ground. It was a great birthday weekend.

Yeah I Saw it

Hi friends, last week I saw a Tamil film called “Nadodigal”. This is the film which tells about all the sides of friendship. If we want to tell the whole story in one line that will be “Friend of my friend is friend of me also”. This is the one line story of this film. The story itself is highly hypothetical, artificial and does not stick in our minds. The way the screenplay is done with artificial humor (which just irritates) and half-hearted song sequences does not do good for the overall film. However character depiction has been good. In particular Kanja Karuppu in his usual ways and all the friends except for Sivakumar do justice to their roles. Director Sivakumar has disappointed as an actor, in my view. The role has been tailor made for him, considering the role in his previous film, but he has nothing much to offer.

A Mixed Bag

Today is a mixed bag, since I have a migraine and my medication is controlling it but not getting rid of it. But on the plus side, this was my day to visit the men’s state prison. About once a month it is my turn to lead the small chapel service there. I always feel fulfilled, as if I have been in the right place at the right time, when I make these visits. The inmates who attend services are usually those who are using their punishment time to better themselves; I find them very thoughtful and therefore fascinating to meet. The service also has a very rich meaning for me as well as for them in this context. Meanwhile, my best friend from years ago is arriving in town tonight and we will get to spend lots of time together later in the weekend. This will be our first visit in several years so I am quite excited.

Work can set you free

My past week was pretty fun. I mostly worked on my old dad’s house. I did not know that work can be so fun. We had to fix roof. If was pretty old so it needed whole change. My dad and couple of friends worked on the roof for tree whole days. I was surprised how hard that work is. But, we did it. After that we took some break. I called my friend and we went out for few drinks. I knew that guy for years but I have not see him for months. The night was such fun. We had so much fun. We met a couple of girls, so the night was almost perfect. After a one day break, we were again fixing dad’s house. We changed almost everything on the house and around the house. We even put around the house new fence. Petty fancy fence.

Pizza! Pizza!

Last night I had pizza for dinner. Not just any pizza, but pizza from my favorite pizzeria. They make the best pizza that is cheesy, well done, and juicy. I got peppers and onions on my slices. The onions have to be the diced kind and not the rings – they have a totally different taste! I was so hungry; I ate 3 slices and downed it with some white wine. I was in Heaven! For dessert, I put some coffee ice cream in a bowl, popped it in the microwave for a 20 seconds, and enjoyed. Oh I love nights I don’t have to cook!
