Halloween is About Harvests as Much as Howls

My favorite holiday is Halloween.  I love it because it is the one holiday that allows us to be something else.  We can transform into something intended to scare others or into something we admire.  Social expectations are lax: you can even change your personality to fit your new persona.  Additionally, it’s a time of sharing the symbolic harvests of the year (as we are no longer an agrarian society). Even the ancient, original meaning of Halloween is fascinating.  It was the pagan new year, a time when the final harvest had been made.  The ancients believed that the boundaries between the worlds of the living and of the dead were most liquid on this day, so people had a chance to speak with ancestors and lost loved ones one more time.  People danced around bonfires and enjoyed a hearty repast from the last harvest.  The Roman Catholic Church and some Protestant denominations celebrate the day after Halloween as All Saint’s Day, which is intended to honor the dead.

Mulling Through the Mundane

A two story J.C. Penney in Aventura, Florida
Image via Wikipedia

Today was pretty much devoted to errands.  I began the day early by taking the train downtown to pay the fee to renew the tags on my car (which had expired).  Then I returned home, cooked brunch for my kids and husband (who was off work today), and rounded up the kids for the last of my holiday shopping.  I’d also made some site-to-store orders on Cyber Monday that had finally arrived, and so we also visited those stores (Kohls and JC Penney) to pick up the orders.  Running errands with kids means detours, and so we had a late lunch at a Thai restaurant that I frequent, where the owner treated us with a complementary sweet and spicy soup to battle the chilly weather.  Then I returned home to drop off the kids and bring sushi to my husband, only to negotiate traffic on my way to the suburbs.  There I met with three different people in three different suburbs with whom I’d arranged to purchase an assortment of cat supplies through Craigslist (we are planning to surprise our elder daughter with a pet cat for the holidays).  Because it was rush hour and traffic going back into the city was ridiculous, I went ahead and did my grocery shopping at one of the suburban stores.  I returned home, worn out from so much driving and expecting to have to clean and cook, only to find that my husband had cooked chili and cleaned after the kids.

I always like to hear more songs

The songs can be from movie, sometime it may be carnatic, jazz, pop etc. I like most of the singers like S.B. Balasubramaniam, hariharan, Michael Jackson, the wakka wakka famous shakira and more. In my childhood I learned carnatic music but later on my studies stopped by music. But I did not stop to hear songs. Whenever i wait in bus stand or in the station, I used to take my headphone and i will hear songs. I was so much crazy on hearing songs.

Natural Food–Worth the Extra Bucks

When I adopted my dogs, I did not give their food much consideration. I just bought whatever was the cheapest at the local pet supply store. I noticed after awhile, they seemed disinterested in eating their normal chow. I decided to try something new instead of the same old stuff. I visited a locally owned business, that specializes in natural pet solutions– including food. The owner recommended that I try a new brand of food; one that is all natural and has no fillers, like corn. Despite the increase in cost, I refuse to go back to the commercial brand foods now. The dogs love it, their coats are more vibrant, and they are more active than ever. They also produce less waste, which is common when eating a food that does not contain lots of fillers, (like corn) which is common in commercial dog food brands. So, despite the small increase in price, I won’t go back to commercial brands. My dogs are happier and healthier, and I won’t trade that for anything.  Same goes for my cats as I give them Natural Balance cat food.
