I haven’t reached the point of saying “This is it, I’m good from here on out”, at least not yet.   I’m still stretching and reaching daily to put all the pieces together that make my story.  The parts where I mess up are the pieces that connect the parts where I succeed.  I can only hope that when it’s complete my original goals are reached, a few mysteries that elude me now will be clear, and I’ll have something apart from my job that satisfies my curiosity and piques it at the same time, making each day I live an interesting day.

The most influential person in my life so far has been my best friend that took his own life.  When he was alive he was my constant companion, my heartache and comfort in one.  Since he passed, he took everything good about him and many years we shared with him.  It’s an unintended side effect of his choice.  I was left questioning everything and didn’t always like the answers I got, when I was lucky enough to get any at all.  He made me more cautious of trusting anyone at all, with even the tiniest bit of myself.  I used to be the kind of person that cared about everyone and now can let them go with the ease of breathing.  It’s something I’d change if I could but is now an unmovable part of me.

I would send myself to the Galapagos Islands of Ecuador in a hot second.  The chance to discover rare and previously unknown animals would be worth the insects and sunburns that are sure to be part of the package deal.  I like to imagine myself as a research discovering an amazing animal that defies all rules and a new classification must be created for. Getting to know the local people that have been able to develop in such proximity with that amazing place would be an adventure to itself as well.  It’s easy to take for granted what you’ve always had, so I can’t help but wonder what people in a place so phenomenal would consider as amazing as I find their islands to be.
